Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Brazilian Genetics Society (SBG), the Latin American Association of Genetics (ALAG), and the International Genetics Federation (IGF), it is our pleasure to invite you to Foz do Iguaçu in September 2018 for the XXII International Congress of Genetics (ICG).

The ICG has been hosted by cities around the world once every five years since 1899.  For the first time, the 2018 Congress will be held in South America, providing unparalleled access for people from our continent to meet with their international peers.  One of the highlights will be the presentation of the elite Gruber Genetics Prize.

The Congress will run from September 10 to 14, 2018 and the overarching theme will be “Genetics for a World in Evolution”, a timely subject as we witness revolutionary genomic strategies impacting our understanding of life diversity, allowing us to tackle many of the agricultural, environmental and medical challenges faced by humankind.  Over the four days of the Congress, we will have an academic program that includes 10 plenary lectures and 42 parallel symposia covering basic and applied genetics in microbes, plants and animals. Poster sessions will provide opportunities for discussing results and ideas. 

More than a conference, the ICG 2018 will be an experience, a celebration of the best of genetics and the gathering of our global community. As you might expect when visiting South America, this spirit of celebration will extend to a vibrant social program.  We have scheduled an afternoon free of activities to allow attendees to visit the extraordinary Iguaçu Falls, a truly breathtaking experience.
